Scope

Next generation wireless communication networks, 5G networks, are expected to accommodate a wide range of vertical industries with advanced requirements of ubiquity, latency, resilience, coverage and high data rate. The workshop on “Enabling 5G to support Vertical Industries” aims to bring together researchers from many scientific areas. The workshop addresses recent advances in theory and practice of the 5G in order to solve problems in several industrial sectors (e.g., transportations, health sciences, agriculture, power grid, etc.).  The main objective is to show how the 5G-communication technology can be used in several diverse areas to suit the global information and communications technology needs.

The workshop topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Smart transportations (car to car communications, automated driving, smart navigation, etc.)

  • High capacity broadband solutions for airplanes and high speed transportations

  • 5G network architectures for distributed and flexible network functions to accommodate specific public and business needs

  • Underwater high data rate services and communications such as video streaming

  • Device centric frameworks such as Device to device communications and its application to public safety

  • Smart manufacturing and automation industry

  • Smart grid and energy exchange and trading for smart buildings

  • UAVs/drones for emergency and crowd network coverage

  • Communication for education, learning and teaching

  • Connected e-Health, healthcare and business

  • Smart agriculture and food security

  • Information security management in e-Governance

  • Monitor and expect environmental changes

  • Other emerging applications and services
